The term GAPS, abbreviated from Gut and Psychology Syndrome was created by Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride MD, MMedSci (neurology), MMedSci (human nutrition) in 2004 after working with hundreds of children and adults with neurological and psychiatric conditions, such as autism spectrum disorders, ADD/ ADHD, schizophrenia, dyslexia, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and other neurological and psychiatric problems.
Since then, the term GAPS has been extended to incorporate Gut and Physiology Syndrome because Dr Campbell-McBride has researched the strong connection between the gut health and autoimmune conditions. These conditions include but are not limited to the following: multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes type one, celiac disease, osteoarthritis, lupus etc. There are many autoimmune disorders but these are the most common.
A brief history of GAPS
GAPS is explained as a condition, which establishes a connection between the functions of the digestive system, the brain and the immune system.
To learn more about Gut health and Psychology Syndrome and, how it develops and how to improve the health outcomes of the sufferers with a sound nutritional protocol please read Dr Campbell-McBride’s books ‘Gut and Psychology Syndrome, Natural treatments for autism, ADD/ ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, depression and schizophrenia’, and ‘Gut and Physiology Syndrome, Natural treatment for Allergies, Autoimmune Illness, Arthritis, gut Problems, fatigue, Hormonal Problems, Neurological Disease.’
GAPS addresses many gut and psychological syndromes effectively
If after reading Dr Campbell-McBride’s book/s, you would like support to implement her nutritional protocol, an appointment can be made for a thorough case taking. The nutritional protocol does not promise to cure the conditions mentioned in her books, however modern research is now providing the evidence to support what Hippocrates (the father of modern medicine) concluded more than 2,000 years ago, that “all diseases begin in the gut”. The nutritional protocol helps to address the root cause of many diseases and in so doing supports the body to regain a healthy state.
If symptoms persist clients are advised to seek the advice of a healthcare professional.
